Top 5 Maritime Events on the North Fork of Long Island to Attend heading into fall
1) Wednesday Night Sailboat Races - New Suffolk, NY
Promptly at 5:55 pm the sailboats line up awaiting the sound of the horn for Wednesday night sailboat races. At 6:00 pm the sailboats take off, navigating the course. These races happen every Wednesday night in the summer, weather permitting. The sailboat races have been known to persist until October or November and will conclude when it is too cold to continue.
Sailors will travel clockwise around Robins Island if it’s an odd day of the month, or counterclockwise if it’s an even day. This keeps the races engaging and of course there are the the everchanging factors like wind, weather, tide and currents. Not only is it engaging for spectators, but the presence of sailboats and power boats are beautiful in the Peconic Bay. Sightseers often join by boat or out on New Suffolk beach with friends and family.
2) Maritime Festival - Greenport, NY
On October 21st, the East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation (EESM), hosts the Maritime Festival to benefit educational programs, museum offerings, and the preservation of Long Beach Bar (Bug) Light. Located in Greenport Harbor, view the tall ships, large yachts and even arrive by boat. There are a ton of activities to take part in including live music, maritime demonstrations, shopping, and boat displays. This event has been rescheduled to October 21-22, 2023.
3) Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation - Fall Fishing Showdown - Southold, NY
On Saturday September 30th, ELIH hosts the Seafood bash full of fresh seafood, a silent auction and of course prizes for the fishing competition. Cash prizes are awarded to the Top 3 Stripers and Top 3 Bluefish. After the fishing tournament, you can enjoy some lobsters, steamers, mussels and corn from Southold Fish Market. If your not a fisherman yourself, you can attend just the bash to enjoy the refreshments and live music!
4) Social Summer Friday at the Seaport Museum - Greenport, NY
On September 8th, Wine expert and director of operations, Gabriella Macari of Macari Vineyards will conduct a discussion about wine and sustainable farming followed by a tasting. The East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation pays tribute to and champions the rich maritime history, vibrant culture, and cherished heritage of Eastern Long Island.

6) First Fridays on Love Lane - Mattituck
First Fridays on Love Lane in Mattituck are set to return on October 6, 2023! This event has been a crowd favorite and after a brief pause the community is excited to see its return. Although, this is not a maritime focus, this event brings the community together, has a variety of vendors including Strong's, and allows you to stroll Love Lane with live music, food and beverages available. After a nice fall day out on the boat or after attending our Yacht & Brokerage Showcase at Strong's Water Club, head over to Love Lane to have a bite to eat.
