What Is the New Cobalt R26?

The Cobalt R26 is a sterndrive luxury sport runabout designed to balance smooth performance with passenger comfort. Its 8 foot 6 inch beam provides a spacious interior while keeping the boat at a versatile, manageable size for day boating.

The layout supports a variety of plans, from an afternoon cruise and waterfront lunch to swimming, entertaining or enjoying watersports with family and friends. Wraparound seating, generous storage and flexible lounging areas allow the boat to adapt as the day unfolds.

A More Spacious and Flexible Interior

One of the defining features of the new Cobalt R26 is its use of onboard space. The interior includes wraparound seating, expanded storage and several convertible areas designed to make the boat more functional throughout the day.

Notable interior features include:

  • An aft facing rumble seat that folds into the sunpad when not in use
  • A convertible sundeck lounger
  • A reversible passenger seat backrest
  • Generous storage beneath the bow seating
  • A 29 quart Cobalt cooler
  • A bow walk through door
  • Premium Varadense Comfort seating
  • An integrated head compartment

With room for up to 14 passengers, the R26 is well suited for families and groups that want space to relax without moving into a significantly larger boat.

Premium Comfort at the Bow and Stern

Cobalt has designed both ends of the R26 to serve as inviting gathering spaces.

At the bow, spacious seating and available filler cushions create a comfortable place to stretch out while cruising or relaxing at anchor. An available bow shade sail can add protection from the sun during longer days on the water.

At the stern, the convertible sunpad and aft facing rumble seat create a natural place to relax near the water. The patented Cobalt Swim Step provides easier access for swimming, while an available hydraulic swim platform can be lowered into the water at the push of a button.

A Modern and Intuitive Helm

The R26 helm is designed to place navigation, vessel information and onboard controls within easy reach of the captain.

Standard dual Garmin 743 touchscreen displays provide clear access to navigation and real time boat data. Digital switching, a leather wrapped steering wheel and thoughtfully positioned controls create a clean, modern helm that is easy to operate.

Available bow docking lights and Cobalt’s quick mount fender system can also make returning to the dock more convenient, especially in changing light or busy marina conditions.

Sterndrive Performance With Multiple Power Options

The new Cobalt R26 is available with sterndrive power from Volvo Penta, MerCruiser and Monsoon. Engine selections range from 300 to 430 horsepower, allowing owners to choose a configuration that fits their preferred balance of efficiency and performance.

Cobalt describes the R26 as offering smooth performance, responsive handling and a stable, composed ride. A wide opening, gasket sealed engine hatch also provides easier service access while helping reduce engine noise in the cockpit.

Shade and Entertainment Options

The R26 can be configured with several features that make it even more comfortable for entertaining.

The available Prisma Tower features an electric folding design and an integrated bimini with LED lighting. Additional available shade options can extend coverage over the bow or aft seating areas.

Owners can also upgrade the boat with Platinum Sound, additional speakers and other entertainment features to create a more personalized experience on the water.

Is There a Cobalt R26 Surf?

Cobalt has also introduced the new R26 Surf for boaters who want dedicated wakesurfing capabilities.

The Cobalt R26 Surf shares the R26’s 26 foot 5 inch length, 8 foot 6 inch beam and 14 person capacity while adding Custom Wave Technology, Surf Gate®, hard ballast and forward facing propulsion. This gives buyers two distinct ways to experience the new platform.

The standard R26 is designed for versatile cruising, entertaining and recreational watersports, while the R26 Surf is focused more specifically on wakesurfing.

Is the Cobalt R26 a Good Boat for Long Island?

The new Cobalt R26 should appeal to Long Island boaters looking for a premium day boat that can support several different activities.

Its combination of seating, storage, swim access and performance makes it a strong option for cruising the bays, visiting waterfront restaurants, relaxing at the sandbar or enjoying watersports. The integrated head compartment and available shade also add convenience for longer days away from the dock.

At 26 feet 5 inches, the R26 offers the amenities and passenger space of a substantial luxury bowrider while remaining approachable for everyday use.
