Strong’s Marine Recognized for Empowering Women on the Water

Strong's Women on the Water Boating Safety

We’re proud to share that Strong’s Marine has been recognized by the Sea Tow Foundation with a 2025 National Boating Safety Award for our Women on the Water series — an initiative designed to empower women to take the helm with confidence, skill, and safety.

Inspiring Confidence at the Helm

The Women on the Water series began with a simple goal: to help more women feel comfortable and capable operating a boat. While many women enjoy boating as passengers, fewer feel confident to captain a vessel themselves — often due to limited hands-on experience or uncertainty about docking, navigation, or general boat handling.

Strong’s Marine set out to change that narrative. Through three weekends of structured, on-water instruction — held April 19 through May 3, 2025 — women had the opportunity to learn essential skills in a supportive, welcoming environment. Each session focused on core safety and confidence-building topics such as Boating Basics, Navigation, and Docking.

Building a Supportive Boating Community

The program was promoted through multiple channels, including email, social media, and in-person outreach, ensuring women across the North and South Forks of Long Island could participate. Our marketing reached thousands, and registration filled quickly — with many participants signing up for multiple sessions after attending the first.

Each morning began with coffee, bagels, and fruit — a casual opportunity for women to connect, share boating experiences, and discuss common goals. This sense of camaraderie became one of the most memorable parts of the experience, fostering community as much as competence.

Participants also received custom Women on the Water hats and hands-on instruction from Strong’s certified captains, who created an encouraging and personalized atmosphere that made learning both fun and impactful.

The Results

The series drew women who live on or frequent the East End — many of whom are current or prospective boat owners and Strong’s Boat Club members. Attendees included professionals from New York City and local communities who shared a common desire: to feel confident, capable, and safe on the water.

Beyond the strong turnout, feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed that the sessions not only built their skills but also gave them a sense of empowerment they hadn’t expected. Several attendees have already inquired about further training or private lessons to continue their boating journey.

A Reflection of Our Core Values

At Strong’s Marine, safety and inclusivity go hand in hand. The Women on the Water series reflects our ongoing commitment to creating a boating culture where everyone — regardless of experience — feels confident and supported.

We’re deeply grateful to the Sea Tow Foundation for recognizing our efforts and to all the incredible women who participated, learned, and inspired others along the way. Together, we’re helping make boating safer, stronger, and more inclusive for all.
